Frequently Asked Questions

  • I am in a crisis, I need immediate support

I'm sorry to hear that you are having such a challenging time.

Unfortunately I do not provide an emergency service. However, I am committed to getting you the support you need.

If you believe that either your own or another person's life is at imminent risk, please call emergency services on 999.

Alternatively, Samaritans may offer the support you need in this moment with their 24/7 helpline: (free phone) 116 123

Please take care of yourself the best you can.

  • How do I start?

    Step 1:

    Contact Coastal Counselling

    - by phone  or 07379 859 357

(please leave a voicemail with your contact details as I am rarely able to take a phone call directly)

    - by email toni@coastal-counselling.co.uk

    - by submitting the online form

I typically aim to respond within 24 hours of your enquiry (excluding weekends and annual leave)

    Step 2:

I will get back to you most likely by email. We can explore mutual availability and arrange an initial session.

    Step 3:

You will be offered a first session which will be an opportunity for you to meet myself, Toni, and get a sense of whether this service might be the right fit for you. There is no obligation to commit after this first appointment. This first session is offered at a reduced fee of £35.00

This intial appointment can be face-to-face, by telephone or online.

  • How many sessions will I have?

You may prefer to work in a more open ended way being prepared to stay until you are feeling ready to end.

Alternatively, you may prefer to have a set a number of sessions from the beginning (ie. 6, 12 or 24 sessions) reviewing this as you go.

I offer both short and long term work. Personally, I have a preference for longer term work as this allows us to develop a deep and meaningful relationship. However, the number of sessions you have is up to you.

You can choose to end your counselling at any time

  • How long are the sessions?

I offer weekly, fortnightly or flexible sessions which are 50 minutes in length.

I recognise that people who work shifts can struggle to access quality counselling. While the session length will remain at 50 minutes, we can arrange flexible sessions to fit in with your schedule.

  • How can counselling help me?

People come to counselling for all sorts of different reasons and with a variety of goals. I am committed to working with you towards the outcomes you hope to see in your life. Therefore how counselling could help you will be unique to you.

Generally speaking, counselling can help us to understand our experiences and to find a safe space to think and feel. It can help us to cope with difficult expereinces. It can also help us to become aware of how we are living in the world, and the ways that we might be inadvertently holding ourselves back from living a fulfilling life.

I hope to support you discover what choices might be available to you, even in times where you feel out of control of your own life.

  • Who can access Coastal Counselling?

I offer 1:1 individual therapy for adolescents (aged 13yrs+), adults and couples. I also work with groups, and with organisations.

I offer flexible sessions for shift workers or those with complex schedules. I recognise that the same time every week approach does not work for everyone.

  • What type of counselling do you offer?

    I offer humanistic therapy.

Working humanisitically means that I value you at the centre of the work and focus on you as a whole person.

How this looks in practice is that I will empathically and compassionately listen to you, and work together to make sense of your experiences and how they are impacting you at this moment. This is a collaborative process of exploration rather than me giving you advice.

I also incorporate play, storytelling, metaphor and imagination into our work.

I predominantly practice in something called existential phenomenological therapy which you can read about here should you wish to know more:
